Modern Classic: Famous Ferris Bueller Film House for Sale
[ Filed under Offbeat or in the Architecture category ]

Homes make history for various reasons – a famous architect, a historical event or … in some cases … an epic film that captured the zeitgeist of a young generation through humor and romance. Yes, the classic modern steel-and-glass box home from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is up for sale.

For those who missed the movie, well, spoiler alert: in a climactic end scene the frustrated co-star tries to rewind the miles on his dad’s car after a day of adventure … but the idea backfires, in more ways than one.

When the plan (putting the car in reverse and propping it up) doesn’t work, he kicks the vehicle until (surprise!) it comes loose and cruises straight through the floor-to-ceiling window along the back of the house, then drops to the forest floor a few stories below.

To own this piece of cinematic history, one would need to shell out over a million and a half dollars … but don’t worry: they did fix the glass at least.

Associations aside, though, the home is truly beautiful (in a modern mininamlist way), with exposed steel structural frame, huge window panels and warm wood ceilings and floors to balance white walls, floors and appliances.

Closet Suitcase: Dresser on Wheels for Business Travelers
[ Filed under Travel Gear or in the More category ]

No matter how hard they try, no manufacturer seems to make a business-friendly suitcase where your clothes are ready right when you arrive – and you never know what you will (or won’t) find when it comes to a hotel dresser or closet.

Psychic Factory has come up with an idea that is so obvious one has to wonder why no one else has done it. To be sure, if they put it into production their will be problems to solve – like how to keep clothes neat when this wheeled contraption may not travel entirely upright, or how to lock the drawers from coming open in transit.

Still, the core concept is sound: a series of dresser-style drawers that simply slide out of the front of the suitcase, and a pull handle that doubles as a hangar-friendly bar from which you can suspect suits, coats and so forth in the open air and wrinkle-free.

Stunning Caleido Radiator Collection By Karim Rashid
The visually stunning Caleido Radiator Collection by Karim Rashid highlights the limitless imagination of the design world. Appearing to be more like work of art thanks to their entrancing imagery, the radiator collection really raises the bar in the A&D continuum. Exemplifying the interplay of art with functional objects, the collection is an unforgettable unification of design, function, imagination and art. The wall mounted radiators are fully functional and my personal favorite are the ELECTRO, X-RAY and the KELVIN Series.

The Farm Table & Stool Come With a Bunch of Donkeys
They’re not real donkeys but wooden ones and they’re supposed to sustain the weight of a coffee table, or, why not, of an out-of-the-box office desk. The wooden donkeys will support your own weight too so you can combine these two different furniture pieces to create a Farm themed room. Designed by Thelermont Hupton, the Farm Table and the Farm Stool will certainly surprise your guests. The coffee table or home office will use two Farm trestles, as you can see in the images below, both inspired from farm donkeys while the Farm Stool will offer you a wooden donkey too although this one is meant to act as a seating solution. Winding Designs: 1 Company, 10 Custom Interior Stairways
[ Filed under Stairs & Cases or in the Interiors category ]

As any good architect or interior designer knows first hand: success is a balance of having a sense of stylistic integrity and fluid adaptability. These staircases represent a range of solutions that stem from the same approach (and company), each suited to the peculiarities of the particular space to which they were fitted.

Bonansea has tackled everything from elegant and expansive mansions to converted urban warehouses, and seems to have a solution to suit any spatial problem. Showing any fewer than ten examples just would not work.

In some cases, an ornate iron railing is called for – in others, an ultra-modern, distressed-steel look works best.

In no instance do the results appear forced, but, on flip side, none of them fully mimic their original context either – they stand out as new and different.

Ring Lamp Inspired By Disney Movie TRON
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that designer Loris Bottello has been inspired by Hollywood movie TRON for his Ring Lamp and maybe that is why I am coveting this surrealistic lamp so much. To achieve the sublime glow that the producers achieved by FX, Bottello makes uses of bioluminescent polymers and kudos to the designer for showing such fortuitous ingenuity. The visually riveting lamp has a rotatable disk that is capable of adjusting the light intensity. The outer copper ring is also a nice touch and lends an aura of minimalist sophistication to the lamp.

Paris 1919 Rug By Toulemonde Bochart
Kitschy, trendy and extremely chic is how I would define the Paris 1919 rug. Conceptualized and designed by French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac for the French company Toulemonde Bochart, the rug is a medley of cacophonous colors, quirky imagery and bold graphics. To achieve a realistic look, the art is first printed on a canvas and then stretched over a frame for exceptional results. Made of 100 per cent New Zealand wool and hand-tufted, the contemporary rug actually depicts two French lovers in typical Parisian style.
